3D printing and how it changes business models

SENSORICA Fridays! event @ SENSORICA Montraal labs.
See meetup event.

3D printing has been called the third industrial revolution. OK, so we agree that it's pretty important. But what does it really mean?

Do you have a business that involves production of material goods? New business models are emerging that integrate digital fabrication. Should you adopt 3D printing? If you do, how should you adapt your your business model around it? Since others around you do it, what would happen if you don't?

Perhaps you have a business idea that involves manufacturing and distribution of material goods. How are you going to launch it? SENSORICA offers a collaborative platform that allows you to go to market fast. Within our diverse community you can find people with various skills, you can use the SENSORICA Montreal lab, as well as the equipment and the tools available. You'll find out how you can benefit from SENSORICA.

Format

  • 5:pm to 6:30pm: gathering
  • 6:30pm: presentation
  • 7:15pm: creative network activity, brainstorming, and for those who are action oriented, why not starting a new venture?

SENSORICA affiliates also discussed about how to increase economic activity (propose new services and products) around 3D printing. You can join! SENSORICA is a network of open enterprises.

Peer production: how stuff is made in a decentralized way

Production of material goods is getting decentralized. This follows a general trend that people call different names: the collaborative economy, the participatory economy, the sharing economy, or the p2p economy.
Since 2010 SENSORICA is developing a model for open enterprise : individuals form networks able to innovate, produce, distribute and service material goods in an open and decentralized way.
Start at 5pm, network until 6:30, followed by a 30 min. presentation, followed by open discussions until we finish the beer.

Funding OVNs or other types of open ventures

[applied to the VIE open innovation hub context]

Since we launched the VIE project, sensoricans have been very busy designing funding strategies for the open world (open networks, open ventures, open source groups of all sorts,...). We got a lot of ideas on this topic through our personal exchanges, from different levels of government, from the academic and the private sector, as well as from hybrid organizations. We think we have enough to start a discussion with the open world. We want to share with you everything we've learned, all in a nutshell. We invite the open world to refine with us the funding strategy and to collaborate with us to put it into practice.
Crowdfunding is also on the table, but we'll go beyond that.
